Fight off Water Damage in Your Basement

Most basements 15 years or older experience some degree of water in the basement. The most common ways for water to get in a basement are through basement wall cracks, through the basement floor and walls, seams in concrete, the cold seam where the basement wall meets the concrete floor, windows and doors, and over a basement wall.

The signs can be obvious such as wet basement floors and flooded finished basements, but other signs are less obvious like:

• White powder stains on cinder and poured concrete walls
• Musty odors
• Peeling and blistery paint on basement walls
• Cracks in walls and floors
• Discolored dry wall and warped paneling
• Rust on hot water tanks and other metal appliances
• Crumbling mortar and cinder block decay
